On Tuesday the 10th of April the Dio hockey girls had their first match against KHC Brugge. After spending the morning shopping in Ghent we then travelled 40 minutes to Brugge. We had a small walk around the city centre before we headed to the KHC Brugge club for our match. The match was 70 minutes long. The girls went down three nil but put up a good fight. KHC Brugge scored two goals in the first ten minutes in a period where the Dio girls were finding themselves. Post the first 10 minutes the girls started to string together some really nice passes and built some really good attack but could not manage to sink one past the Brugge Goalie. In the second half the girls had their fair share of chances and after adjusting to the physicality of the match started to hold their own. Bring on game two!!
Post the game the club kindly hosted us for a dinner. The girls took the opportunity to space themselves out so a Dio girl sat next to a KHC Brugge girl. The girls enjoyed chatting, exchanging contact details and discussing the latest music. The club had a really nice family cultural feel to it and everyone really enjoyed the taste of a European hockey experience. We hope that all the venues can offer us the same unique experience.
